for people who aren't half-baked new-agey sods

I have read a LOT of self-help books and tried a LOT of stuff. I was a half-baked person myself who believed all the trash that 90 per cent of 'self-help' books talk about. Then I got chewed by reality and was humiliatingly spat out again. Robert Greene is THE ONLY author I found to be genuine, inspirational but realistic, and when it's needed, he shows you the dark side of human nature without hiding it under the carpet like 90 per cent of self-help books do. Robert Greene doesn't suggest that you go around like a fool believing that the 'universe' is a 'good' place. Actually, this book, 'Mastery', is more 'forgiving' than his masterpieces, 'the 48 laws of power' or '33 strategies of war' .
This book is about MASTERY. It's about people who are willing to pay the full price in mastering a craft, an art, a difficult skill, over the LONG term. And when I say LONG, I mean a decade or more. I know what Greene is talking about, since I myself have been involved in my skill for amost a decade now, and EVERYTHING Greene mentions in the book, is astonishingly accurate. The 'inner calling' (still remember mine, it was so powerful I could not move), the apprenticeship, the way after a certain stage your mind seems to make connections that surprises even the individual who's experiencing them (I have felt this many times in the last 3 years, and I have seen the look on the face of people who were watching me).
This book is not for half-baked people who watch the dvd 'The Secret' and watch it's stupid content and people and go around like fools believing unproven trash, such as the 'law of attraction'.
I suggest you get both the full edition and the concise version of Mastery. But make no mistake, the concise versions are EXTREMELY well written books, you can get a lot out of them. This isn't the Kindle misspelled piece of trash that people sell on kindle for 2 bucks.
I have every version of every Greene's book, the guy is that good. Another thing I like about him, it's his honesty. This isn't the 'guru' schmuck who's telling me some made up crap to sell his book. To me all other 'gurus' like Robbins and all the other million ones, are like rancid cheese. They are fluffy and banal, going around talking unproven trash like 'the law of attraction' and stupid things like these. They say things that half-baked people want to hear, not realistic things about human nature and how the world really works. To me, if it doesn't deal with realism, it's junk.
Well done Mr. Greene. I am looking forward to your next book. Please continue keeping things REAL. And please don't forget an abundant dose of MACHIAVELLIANISM. :)

Great, consice book. Has everything you need from it's big brother "Mastery".

Excellent summary for those wanting to brush up on the finer points of the main book. Also, great for those more interested in the "meat and potatoes" than in the stories that go along with the idea. Happy to own both versions of this book.

Perfect refresher! But some ink problems.

I love the smaller size of this edition. I believe a new reader would get more out of reading the full-size edition, but for those who have already read that regular edition this is a great copy to keep on you to read as a refresher.
My complaint with all of these "concise editions" of Robert Greene's books (as I have two) is that the ink is not complete on some of the words throughout the book. For instance, the word "this" on one of the pages has the lower half of the letter "t" missing. This occurs on most pages throughout the book - and isn't resigned just to the letter "t." While I have yet to read a passage where the meaning was obscured as a result of incomplete ink, it is noticeable and distracting every time you come across such errors. I wouldn't have thought this to be a problem in modern day book presses.
