Many people have mentioned this already but to be clear--THIS IS NOT A NOVEL! It's a (admittedly well made and illustrated) comic book. If you were hoping for a conclusion to Dexter's Final Cut, you won't find it here.

Decent comic with unfair reviews

The people giving it one stars are giving it unfair reviews. Yes, it is a comic book or graphic novel, whatever you want to call it. The cover clearly states that it is released by Marvel comics and Illustrated by Dalibor Talajic. if people actually read the description it clearly states this collects issues 1-5 of the series. Why don't you people actually read the details?

Now on to the book. The comic is okay but I feel like Lindsay's writing style doesn't really go well in the comic book format. The art is great and is closer to the interpretation of the novel's characters.

If Amazon originally failed to describe this as a graphic novel, then shame on Amazon. On the other hand, if it did describe this as a graphic novel, then shame on the purchaser for not realizing that a graphic novel is a hard-bound or semi-hard-bound comic book.

Wit and Wisdom of the Apostle of Common Sense

Gilbert Keith Chesterton is certainly one of the most entertaining, and important, authors in the English language. This particular volume covers quickly, yet completely, the history of England from early Roman times to the time of the Great War, World War I. Chesterton is a man, I suspect, who would have been very hard to dislike. Though brilliant, he always approached his many opponents with a keen sense of fun and empathy. But he is certainly a writer who, though sometimes challenging, is always enjoyable.

This wonderful, short, and thoroughly readable book can really be seen as a layman's philosophical representation of the great arc of English history. To grasp Chesterton's wit and wisdom entirely, it is probably important to have at least a nodding familiarity with English history before reading the book. But, so armed, the reader will be delighted with G.K.'s retelling of the great events of England, together with his insightful commentary relative to their import.

Particularly poignant is Chesterton's rendering of the martydom of Saint Joan of Arc. He avers that, at one time or another, perhaps all British soldiers would have traded places with the common British infantryman who broke his spear to make a cross for the dying Saint. This section alone is worth the price of the entire book.

Sharp and Insightful

If you love Chesterton, this work is full of the kind of cutting humor and cultural insight that is his best. The title is a bit misleading in the sense that this is more a "collection of essays on aspects of English History." It should also be seen as a critique of other popular histories of his day. However, he remains the best Christian apologist in the modern era and of the modern era.

A must for English Historians

Cheyney's work, though dated, is one of the most comprehensive history books I have ever seen. His detail from the Celts and geography to the reign of George V is remarkable. While many of the "MTV" generation may find it dry and without enough visuals, Cheyney was very precise in choosing which visuals would accentuate the text. He does this masterfully. This text should be updated to the reign of Elizabeth II and required in any British History course. As a teacher, I would strongly recommend every school that desires to give History its proper respect to buy this book for its teachers and libraries. Again, this book gives such rich detail to English History that it proves to be indispensable to any World History or English History class.

...I was looking for a one-act play to direct for my seniorproject and I came across this wonderful piece of work. It hit homefor me. ...it was so truthful and brought back so many memories for me. Ms. Anderson did a great job capturing the life and spirit of who my aunt was. This is more of a thank you than a review. It was a joy to read, but also tugged at my heart strings. The play gave the message that entire crew gave...never give up on your dreams. Always 'Reach for the Stars'.

Beautiful and Abstract

This is a delightful play. My school did this for our One Act this year, I was Ed. The script itself is very inspirational and lovely. It tells such a fantastic, yet heartbreak story that masterfully informs the audience as well as entertaining them. The dialogue is excellently written, especially the many monologues within the show are very well written. It's a fantastic show that is not only a great read, but a really fun show to perform in.
Highly recommended for those Theatre teachers looking for a good One Act, or those Theatre majors looking for a show to direct.

About the Author

Franz Pöchhacker is Associate Professor of Interpreting Studies in the Center for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna. His professional background is in conference interpreting, and he has worked freelance in conference and media settings since the late 1980s. He has lectured widely and published some 100 papers and reviews. He is the author of the textbook Introducing Interpreting Studies (Routledge 2004/2016), Associate Editor of the ‘Benjamins Translation Library’ series and co-editor of Interpreting: International Journal of Research and Practice in Interpreting (John Benjamins).
