In 2011, I crossed over the barrier of the Big-4-0. With great apprehension that I might shrivel up from an expiration date or be called acougar for marrying a younger man, I found out that the view from 40 never looked better.
What was the big fuss about being 40?
Why does it seem as if almost everyone dreads middle age? After fully saying no to any face fillers or plastic surgery tricks, the beginnings of Middle Age Beauty began to percolate in mind. Why was this time frame associated with 'nervous break downs,' affairs, and a time to lie about your age?
After working hard for more than 20 years to keep up my personal appearance because of my early beginnings as a model, I decided to share my inside secrets, vulnerable truthful moments about my own journey into the middle age chapter.

A little gem!

This book is a little gem. I read it cover to cover in one sitting and made notes along the way. Inspired by Machel Shull's years of experience as a face model and her journey to discover (and embrace) the undeniable connection between inner and outer beauty, it's a must-read for women of all ages. Buy a copy for yourself and one for your best friend, too; it's a wonderful gift. Highly recommended.

A Beauty Bible for Everywoman

Middle Age Beauty is a valuable beauty bible for women of all ages. Holistic in nature, it is concerned with the care of body, mind and soul, as the author firmly places the emphasis on the cultivation of inner beauty before all else. Written in an engaging conversational tone, Machel Schull is like a big sister whispering her cherished beauty secrets, while offering down to earth advice in the most honest and direct manner.
Early in the book, Ms. Schull presents a winning argument for the reasons a woman should never lie about her age, backed up by an interview with Dr. Tess Hightower. The aging process and women's attitude to it, is naturally the central focus of the book.
One of my favorite quotes is from Chapter 9, which deals with positive thinking: "When you struggle against reality you cause inner turmoil to your soul".
This phrase resonates with me as I have personally learned that acceptance is the first step to addressing any issues that arise in our lives.
Meditation, the benefits and how to do it are all explained in very simple terms. An interview with Zen Master Michiko Rolek provides further encouragement and helps demystify `mindful breathing'.
There is also a lot of fun in this book, as the author throws cold water on the hype fed to women by society and the beauty industry.
This is a lovely girly book that is also gutsy and full of cheer. In fact I would recommend it to anyone in need of a good boost to their self esteem. Definitely a winner!

I am both a nerd and artist, needing all the beauty help I can get. Machel's lovely book was heaven sent. The 3 things that stand out for me; 1) Girl friend therapy, (have more fun) 2) working up to taking once a year swimsuit pic 3) awesome health tips like get B shots and drink apple cider, and so much more.

Okay Reading with Good Action

Julius Caesar is assassinated and in his will he names Octavius as his heir and adopted son. Octavius, who will later be known as Caesar Augustus, must now fight both politically and militarily to obtain his inheritance and the seat of power.

It may be historical fact but it does seem strange that an 18 year old boy who was more student and reader of philosophy should suddenly become interested in taking over the seat of power in Rome. Even more so that politicians and armies would rise up to support him. Even after reading, it becomes not too clear of how that all came about. Certainly Decimus, who was a general of his legions, could challenge Antony and his legions to battle. But young Octavius travels to Rome and soon has an army himself based on paying the soldiers large wages and getting political support. I wonder how Octavius got all the money to do that? It was said that he borrowed a lot but I saw no collateral that he could offer the money lenders as security. Anthony had confiscated Caesar's treasury and estates before Octavius could get possession. That may not all be clear although history will bear out that it happened.

There is good battle action and descriptions in this novel. One can also get a look at the political machinations that were taking place and the plots and sub plots of the various politicians including Cicero. The book would drag at times as the characters engaged in pages of introspection and philosophical rhetoric. The love life of Octavius' friend Agrippina also started to become rather tedious and cliche. This was an okay read but not up to the level of the first book in the series.

Although much is known about his well known adoptive father Gaius Julius Caesar, in relative terms little is known about his successor, Octavian, better known in history as Caesar Augustus. By the time of Julius Caesar's death it could fairly be said that the ancient Republic had rotted from the Senate down, and that such rot was well settled in by the rule of the Consul's Marius and Sulla (before Sulla became a Dictator of Rome.

While his father did do some violence to the ancient state of Republican Rome, it was a combination of Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus that set it on the path to survive for another 500 years in the western empire and for another 940 years in the eastern Roman empire, better known as the Byzantine Empire. But it was really just the one empire with many changes in colour and seat of power. Indeed Emperor Justinian, by his
brilliant general Belisarius who reconquered Italy, for a time anyway.

Like the other books by Robert Lubrican, this one is humorous and sexy. I enjoy the twists and turns in his works and his inclusion of the Maori culture, one I know fairly well, speaks the truth in this book.

It a quick and delightful read. You will enjoy it.

Summarized, You will travel back into the well detailed exciting life of YWAM Missionary John Stier. He will start you off with how he was raised and the many stuggles he had to go through leading up to meeting his lovely Hawaiian Wife. Against all odds they were called into a country to raise up other missionaries. The stuggles were not only real, but you will begin to see God revealed in a pattern sort of way, teaching John Stier to figure out the ultimate questions you may have been asking yourself. When I started off reading this book I became depressed hearing all the struggles John had gone through. But closer to the end I started seeing this pattern that God had taken John on. This was closely related to my own life. Then the answer came and it all made sense. You hear these sermons you read these books. But are you really ready for God to bless you? Are you really ready to discipline yourself when you find out the answers to your questions? I guess will see.

This book shows how God can work through you, if you just let Him and put your faith on Him. Probably the best book I've ever read. Jim Stier went through alot of difficulties, but God was always there. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

lacking meat

I usually read books slowly, word-by-word. So I typically find at least one or two errors in every book I read, I was surprised how many errors this book has. There is an error on practically every page which makes it difficult to read at times. This also has me questioning the validity of content. As for the content - the book glosses over all of the major topics. It makes for a quick read, but not much help to someone that has spent more than a weekend thinking about real estate investing. There are, however, plenty of references to the author's business for the reader to get more "help". I bought the book as a guide, but it turned out to be more of a marketing tool for their real estate management company in Atlanta. I considered giving 1 star, but there were a couple of helpful hints that gave me ideas about issues/ideas to further pursue. If you are thinking about considering to spend some time learning about real estate, then this book is good for you. Otherwise, don't waste your time.

From conception through to how to best assist my wife this is the definitive guide for men on the subject of pregnancy

I purchased this guide in the hopes that it would assist me in removing any obfuscation; allowing me to be a more calm and helpful husband to my wife during her pregnancy. I can wholly attest that it's done just that. From conception through to how to best assist my wife, there is nothing left out of this material. The material that the author provided on supplementation and physical necessities alone was worth the price of the book and the recipe suggestions furthered my understanding of how to help maintain a healthy pregnancy. I really enjoyed the breakdown of the trimester as well; each phase being written about in a way that coherently describes the best means of responding to the situation. Also, the author even describes the methods for dealing with the big moment before and after arriving at the hospital; a chapter filled with details of occurrences and expectations that further quelled any concerns I had prior. Finally, the discussion on the possibilities: Post-partum depression, mood swings, and even sleep loss. This full disclosure of information even further cemented my understanding to the point that I am now actually looking forward to everything instead of being nervous about it.

In summation, if you're looking for a guide that will lead you through all the phases of pregnancy from pre-conception to post-delivery, this succinct and dense book will definitely illuminate you. A very refreshing, simple and relevant compilation of all the stuff that goes into being a dad. The book is very fast faced with a good bit of humour sprinkled all over. References from personal life of the author add a good flavour and connect with the reader.
I highly recommend this book for first time dads.

California author Pratik Patil was born and raised in India and form a family of physicians and lawyers, Pratik struck out in a new direction and embraced the field of engineering. After gaining a master's degree in computer science from the University of Southern California, he works in the field of Internet advertising in Southern California. Being the first among his compatriots to become a father, he came the counseling resource and it was that position that encouraged him to help other new father adjust to the role of fatherhood by understanding the process of dealing with pregnancy and how to start there and participate in all phases of new parenthood.

Pratik guides men in helping their wives during pregnancy and also to teach them how to take care of their own physical and mental health in their journey into pregnancy, infancy issues, and the `new home' environment.

Yasmin Gunaratnam is a lecturer in the Sociology Department at Goldsmiths College (University of London) and has written in the field of race equality and health and social care. David has written widely in palliative care, including edited books with Pam Firth and Gill Luff, "Loss, Change and Bereavement in Palliative Care", and with Barbara Monroe, "Patient Participation in Palliative Care: a voice for the voiceless"; "Death, Dying and Social Differences"; and "Resilience and Palliative Care. Achievement in Adversity", Oxford University Press. David facilitates a number of user involvement activities at St Christopher's and his special interests include working with children and families, culture and ethnicity in palliative care and staff support.
