Paula D. McClain is Professor of Political Science, Professor of Public Policy, Dean of the Graduate School, Vice Provost for Graduate Education, and Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Gender in the Social Sciences at Duke University. She is a premier author, scholar, and series editor of numerous works on urban, racial, and ethnic politics.

Steven C. Tauber is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Government and International Affairs at the University of South Florida. He is known for his work on judicial politics, particularly on social movements' use of litigation as a strategy. His work has covered civil rights groups and the animal rights movement.

I actually bought this book for the sole purpose of me not being able to get it from my school's bookstore. I bought it for my Political Science class and when I say it's really informative and my class is amazing. I'm pleased to say I won't sell it back. It'll now be a reference book!

The play has strong autobiographical elements, featuring characters based on Williams himself, his histrionic mother, and his mentally fragile sister Laura. In writing the play, Williams drew on an earlier short story, as well as a screenplay he had written under the title of The Gentleman Caller. The play premiered in Chicago in 1944. After a shaky start it was championed by Chicago critics Ashton Stevens and Claudia Cassidy, whose enthusiasm helped build audiences so the producers could move the play to Broadway where it won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award in 1945. The play is well-known-it's the performances here!

I've treasured my Caedmon LPs of this performances for decades. IMHO, this is the finest production of the play ever mounted. Montgomery Clift gives perhaps his best performances as "Tom", Jessica Tandy is wonderful as "Amanda", David Wayne - a steady "B" actor from the 50s, a touching performance of the fabled "Gentleman Caller" - and, finally, Julie Harris is heartbreaking as "Laura". And a side-note, the music was written by Paul Bowles. I'm so happy this performance is on CD. Don't miss it!

I appreciate the well researched info and the jokes. Some are a little cheezy, but I have to say I really liked the one with the punch like, 'no pun in ten did.' Genesis! I am a fan of this humor. Waited so long.

I have waited and waited for this book and I finally got it. Not only did I get it, it was also signed as well as a pencil sketch done by the Producer and Creator. As I write this I am attending the 2014 San Diego Comic Con. I was so stoked. Anyway, the book not just discusses the film but is very transparent in detailing the process. Even down to giving the color codes of the characters like their eye lash color. Very cool and detailed. If you get your hands on one get it. This will be one that the resale value will remain solid. That's if you'd want to give up this classic gem.

A must have for any art fanatics

A beautiful book and a comprehensive one at that too! While some art books end up focusing on one aspect of it's respective movie, 'Desiging the Secret of Kells' explores not only how the creators painstakingly captured its beautiful art style, but also looks into character design, production process, story boarding and writing, and much more. From the caption and footnotes in the book tells how much the creators are passionate about and love this masterpiece. Just flipping through this book was a joy. You have to read it to believe it. :>

`The Great Powers and the European State System, 1814-1914¿ is a full analytical narrative of the functioning of the European states system over the nineteenth century between the fall of Napoleon in 1814 and the outbreak of the First World War just one hundred years later.

It examines the variety of devices, manoeuvres and feats of statesmanship by means of which decision-makers managed the interplay of their interests, common and conflicting ¿including the dangerous Eastern Question¿ without exposing Europe to the catastrophe of a general conflagration:

• systems of active co-operation, such as the ¿Congress system¿ or the Concert of Europe
• periods of ¿international anarchy¿ in which, if wars were endemic they were at least limited
• the stabilizing effects of the predominance of conservative status quo Powers in the Bismarckian era
• the dangerously polarised system that emerged on the eve of the First World War.

At nearly double the length of the first edition, this book is a very major revision and update. It includes not only the results of the latest research, but a body of additional information and a number of illuminating maps that will make the subject even more accessible to readers.

Since 1999 F.R. Bridge has been Emeritus Professor of Diplomatic History at the University of Leeds.
